By now, you have probably either seen or heard the phrase, “Making Ready A People Prepared To Meet The Lord.” This statement comes from Luke 1:17, a passage that deals with the mission of John the Baptist in preparing the way for the ministry of Jesus.
“And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” (Luke 1:17 emphasis added)
At First Church we have adopted this as our mission statement. The Bible teaches us that “it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement” (Hebrews 9:27) and that “every one of us shall give account of himself to God” (Romans 14:10). It is the mission of First Church of God to prepare persons for their ultimate and great appointment, namely standing before the Lord. Everything we do then is done through the lens of this mission statement.
